TikTok ad spy: research creative with Creative Center and the ad library
TikTok offers two official places to see ads, and they answer different questions. Creative Center Top Ads is a curated inspiration source. The Commercial Content Library is a transparency tool with a regional scope. Pick the source that fits the question before you search.
Research TikTok ads with Creative Center Top Ads and the Commercial Content Library, read vertical video creative in layers, and plan an original test.

Choose between Top Ads and the library
TikTok describes Top Ads as a collection of high-performing creatives from its platform. That label is TikTok’s selection, and you cannot audit the results behind it. Use Top Ads to study craft: openings, captions, pacing, and sound.
The Commercial Content Library is the lookup tool. TikTok’s support page sets out its regional scope. At our review, it described ads shown to users in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK. If you sell elsewhere, a missing advertiser may simply be outside that scope.

Read a TikTok ad in four layers
A TikTok ad often carries different messages in the spoken words, the on-screen text, the visuals, and the sound. Viewers can take in any of them first. Reading only the caption misses most of the ad.
- Watch once with sound and once without.
- Write the spoken line from the first two seconds.
- Write the on-screen text from the same moment.
- Describe what the hands, face, or product do on screen.
- Note whether the sound is a voice, music, or both.
- Record which layer carries the main promise, then draft a version of your own in the free brief tool.
Illustrative example: creator voice versus brand voice
Imagine two ads for the same water bottle. One is a creator filming a gym bag and saying, “I stopped buying plastic bottles.” The other is a clean studio shot with a price card. The useful note is the voice, not the product: personal habit against product fact.
If your brand has no creator relationships, the test may be a founder or a staff member in the same casual frame. Write the claim you can support before you write the script.
Keep engagement separate from results
Likes, comments, and shares on an ad are public reactions. They do not show spend, conversions, or profit. A heavily discussed ad can still lose money. Record reactions as context and keep your test goal tied to your own account data. If you want a cost baseline for the test, the free calculator works from your own CPM or CPC inputs.
Common questions
Are Top Ads proven winners?
They are TikTok’s selection of high-performing creatives. You cannot verify the results behind that label, so use them for creative study rather than as proof.
Why can’t I find a competitor in the Commercial Content Library?
Check the regional scope on TikTok’s support page first. The library does not describe itself as a worldwide archive.
Does SwipeHarbor capture TikTok ads?
Not yet. TikTok is planned with no release date.
