Ad spy tools compared: choose by platform, evidence, and research task
Choose an ad research tool for the question it can answer. A placement finder, a creative archive, and a destination research service solve different problems. Start with your platform and required evidence before you compare feature counts or subscription offers.

What this comparison establishes
SwipeHarbor’s editorial team reviewed official public product pages and documentation on October 12, 2026. The descriptions below report vendor positioning. We did not conduct paid-account tests or verify capture completeness, refresh speed, estimated spend, or campaign results.
SwipeHarbor publishes this guide and sells ad research software. Our product currently captures NewsBreak and Rumble only. It is not a direct replacement for a YouTube, Meta, TikTok, or broad native library.
The comparison has no numerical scores or universal winner. The questions in the final column are our suggested evaluation steps, not reported defects. Prices and trial terms can change; verify the specific plan at the vendor before purchase.
Compare the advertised task with your actual need
All vendor rows use the same public-source review date: October 12, 2026. Feature descriptions are vendor claims, not first-hand test results. Links go to official sources; the VidTao row uses its publisher’s product description because its homepage provided no readable detail during this review.
| Tool and source | Research focus | Public vendor claim | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| TubeSift | YouTube placement research | Describes video and channel searches plus saved placement lists. This is a different primary task from its related VideoAdVault product. | Confirm that placement research is your need and that the output fits your current Google Ads campaign setup. |
| VideoAdVault | YouTube creative and destination research | Describes video-ad search by titles, channels, domains, and page URLs. Its Pro description adds landing-page search and watchlists. | Try a known advertiser and destination. Check which plan includes the search and monitoring features you need. |
| SpyHero | Affiliate research across Facebook, YouTube, and native | Presents ad copy, creative, and landing-page research across those traffic sources, with an affiliate-marketing focus. | Request an example for your offer category and market. Evaluate the actual evidence behind any profitable-ad label. |
| AdPlexity | Separate traffic-source products | Lists Social, Native, Push, Desktop, Mobile, and Adult as standalone subscriptions. The plan page describes destination paths, boards, and reports. | Identify the exact product and networks you need. Check the combined cost if your work spans several sources. |
| AdSpy | Facebook and Instagram research | Describes ad-text, URL, Page, and comment search, plus affiliate and offer filters. | Check whether comment and offer searches produce useful records for your category. Inspect the dates and destination evidence. |
| BigSpy | Discovery across multiple ad platforms | Lists platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. It describes creative discovery, domain research, and saved assets. | Test your most important platform first. Confirm its access limits and sample quality in the plan you would buy. |
| PowerAdSpy | Research across social, video, search, and native | Advertises several platform-specific products and search by factors such as keyword, advertiser, and landing page. | Ask which sources and features the selected plan includes. Verify that a platform logo corresponds to useful results for your market. |
| VidTao | YouTube creative and funnel research | Its official publication describes a YouTube ad library and competitor research from video hooks to landing pages. | Confirm current plan details directly. Test whether the advertiser and page history you need is available. |
| VidSniff | YouTube ad search and comparison | Describes advertiser and domain research, destination URLs, duplicate counts, and estimated spend. | Ask how estimates and duplicate counts are produced. Do not treat its performance labels as verified sales or profit. |
Start with official public sources
For a known YouTube advertiser, start with Google Ads Transparency Center. For Facebook and Instagram lookup, start with Meta Ad Library. Use TikTok Creative Center for selected examples, and check the Commercial Content Library’s regional scope for transparency research.
These sources can be enough for a focused creative brief. A paid tool becomes worth evaluation when it addresses a specific gap, such as discovery across advertisers, saved research, destination history, or a repeatable team workflow.
A free entry point, a trial, and a fully usable free plan are different offers. Confirm search limits, source access, exports, renewal terms, and any payment requirement before you rely on one.

Use the same evaluation task for every candidate
Choose a small set of known advertisers and one less familiar product category. Use the same market and date range in every candidate. Keep a record of the exact query, useful results, unavailable fields, and steps required to produce a brief.
Separate discovery from verification. Finding an unfamiliar creative is valuable. Establishing its advertiser, observation date, and destination is another task. A tool that does one well may leave the other incomplete.
- Find a known advertiser with the selected plan.
- Open a relevant ad and inspect its source and observation dates.
- Check whether the available media supports a complete creative note.
- Inspect the captured destination and any missing steps.
- Save or export the research using the features you need.
- Document which decision the result helps you make.
Treat performance claims as a separate evidence problem
Observed ad age does not establish continuous delivery. A duplicate count does not establish conversions. A modeled spend number needs a method, a sample, and an uncertainty statement before it can support a budget decision.
Ask a vendor which fields it observes directly, which it derives, and which it estimates. Check whether missing data stays missing. A polished result that silently replaces an unavailable destination with a guess can mislead your research.
No public product page in this comparison establishes a competitor’s verified return on ad spend. Use library evidence to form a creative hypothesis, then evaluate your own campaign with your own results.
Choose a shortlist by platform
For YouTube, evaluate whether you need TubeSift’s placement workflow or a creative-focused option such as VideoAdVault, VidTao, or VidSniff. For Meta, compare the official library with specialist or multi-platform candidates such as AdSpy, BigSpy, PowerAdSpy, SpyHero, and AdPlexity Social.
For TikTok, begin with the official sources and verify current TikTok access in any paid candidate. For native, confirm the exact networks in products such as AdPlexity Native, SpyHero, or PowerAdSpy. These are evaluation paths based on public positioning, not tested rankings.
For NewsBreak and Rumble captured-ad research, consider SwipeHarbor within its stated scope. It does not provide verified spend, conversions, or profitability. Its current capture library does not cover YouTube, Meta, TikTok, Taboola, Outbrain, or MGID.
The right purchase removes a specific research obstacle. If you cannot name that obstacle and demonstrate the tool’s answer, continue with the official sources until the need is clear.
