Native network research
Native ad spy: choose the network before you choose the tool
Native is a format, not one inventory. Taboola, Outbrain, MGID, and NewsBreak each run their own systems, policies, and placements. A tool that says “native” may cover one of them well and others not at all. Decide which network matters first.
Plan native ad research network by network across NewsBreak, Taboola, Outbrain, and MGID, with honest coverage notes and a headline-to-offer record.

Pick the network from your buying plan
Start from where you plan to buy. If you are testing NewsBreak, research NewsBreak ads, which sit in a local news app. If you are testing Taboola or Outbrain, research recommendation units on publisher sites. If you are testing MGID, check its widget and native video formats.
Each network publishes its own creative and landing-page rules. A headline style accepted on one network may be restricted on another, so research that ignores the network can produce an unusable brief.
Formats differ too. MGID’s advertiser page names native widgets, a Smart Widget, an In-Content Impact Widget, and native video. Taboola and Outbrain units usually pair a headline with a thumbnail. NewsBreak lists in-feed, in-article, related-article, video, carousel, and newsletter options. Compare like with like.

Record the network, publisher, and advertiser separately
A publisher is where you saw the unit. A network is the distribution path. An advertiser is the party behind the ad. Mixing them up turns a publisher name into a false competitor.
- Write down how you know the network: a label, a widget name, or another source.
- Record the publisher page and the observation date.
- Copy the headline and describe the thumbnail’s role.
- Follow the click and record each page: article, quiz, or offer.
- Mark any step you could not reach as unavailable.
- Keep one record per network in the free brief tool so findings do not blur together.
Questions to ask any native ad spy vendor
Ask which networks, countries, devices, and dates the data covers. Ask whether destination pages are captured or only linked. Ask how missing data is shown. A broad native label does not answer whether your network is included.
Illustrative example: if you plan a Taboola test in Germany, a library built mostly from US NewsBreak captures will not answer your question, however large it is.

Common questions
Does SwipeHarbor offer one library of all native ads?
No. Each native network runs separately, with its own policies and formats, so research one network at a time.
Which native network does SwipeHarbor cover?
NewsBreak today. Taboola is planned with no release date.
Is a news-style card always a native ad from Taboola or Outbrain?
No. Appearance alone does not identify the network. Record a network only when you have evidence for it.
